Back to School

Tomorrow is the first day of classes and the beginning of what is looking to be an even busier year than the last.  I know I’ve been terribly delinquent about posting here, but it’s amazing how crazy life has been lately.

I arrived in Providence, RI on Saturday (after a terrible day of flying from California to DC on Friday).  Things are going well so far.  I’m settling in, finding my way around, meeting people in my apartment complex and in my program.  Monday was an intro to the program/advising day.  I am in the Teaching + Learning in Art + Design department.  Within the department there are two degree tracks, an MA and an MAT.  I’m getting my MA, with a concentration in Museum Education alongside three other women.  There are also three people in the MA program concentrating on Community Arts Education (for a grand total of 7 of us).

This semester I am taking five classes and I am a TA for the Art History 101 course.  My first class tomorrow is a Museum, Histories, and Critiques class held at the the University Museum of Art class on campus.  It sounds like it’s going to be a very cool class.  We are scheduled to take trips to both Boston and NY to visit other museums as well.  I am also taking a Museum Practicum class and a couple of educational and visual theory classes.  My elective this semester is an Art Lab.  The class explores the intersections of art and biology.  It sounds totally bizarre and totally fascinating and fits well with my interest in the role art can play in interdisciplinary studies.

Hopefully I will have some time and energy to post more often!  But, until the next post, enjoy some photos from our July trip to Curacao below!
